POSITIONS AVAILABLE: 

24 HOUR SHIFT - PER DIEM - PARAMEDIC/AEMT/EMT/EMR 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

Has the responsibility for the provision of optimum patient care in accordance with the Vermont State Protocols and all regional guidelines/protocols. He/she shall be responsible for the safe operation of all Arlington Rescue Squad, Inc vehicles in accordance with the current Vermont motor vehicle code.

**Housing is provided nearby but off-site of the station.

 

REPORTS TO: Executive Director and/or Deputy Director

WORK SCHEDULE:

Shifts are 24-hours in duration and start at 0600 hours. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: High School Graduate or Equivalent.

AGE: Must be a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age.

 

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

  1. Paramedic 

    1. Minimum of National Registered Paramedic certification

    2. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification meeting AHA standards

  2. Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT)

    1. Minimum of National Registered AEMT certification

    2. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification meeting AHA standards

  3. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

    1. Minimum of National Registered EMT certification

    2. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification meeting AHA standards

  4. Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)

    1. Minimum of National Registered EMR certification​

    2. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification meeting AHA standards 

  5. Valid motor vehicle operator’s license that is not under suspension or revocation.

  6. Certified in HAZ-MAT awareness or equivalent or obtain certification within one (1) year of employment/membership

  7. IC 100, IC 200, IC 700 certification or obtained within one (1) months of employment/membership

  8. Completed Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC), (CVO) or complete within one (1) year of employment/membership or other vehicle operation training as seen fit by Executive Director.

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Demonstrated evidence of proficiency in the required ALS/BLS skills. Must have thorough current knowledge of medical/traumatic assessments, treatment, and protocols.

  2. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with fellow employees, hospital staff, fire units, rescue squads, police departments, communication centers, management, neighboring EMS units, and the general public.

  3. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  4. Must be able to handle conflict situations with good judgment, professionalism, and courtesy.

  5. Must have a working knowledge of the physical layout, street systems, and demographics of Arlington Rescue Squad, Inc. coverage area.

  6. Must be able to work as a team member along with the volunteers to accomplish said tasks.

  7. Must have a working knowledge of computers and the willingness to learn and operate advanced technology. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintains personal knowledge and skills in order to deliver optimum patient care.

  2. Safely operates vehicles of Arlington Rescue Squad, Inc in accordance with the current motor vehicle code of the state of Vermont.

  3. Stocks and maintains ARSI vehicles and their contents in a state of readiness at all times. A daily rig check schedule must be adhered to.

  4. Works in hazardous environments to ensure the safety and stabilization of the patient.

  5. Works with local EMS, fire, and law enforcement agencies as a team for a coordinated effort on the patients’ behalf.

  6. Documents all patient care, assessments, skills, and all service reports in a timely fashion. Documentation shall be completed on a computer and accurate.

  7. Maintains ARSI vehicles, radios, equipment, supplies, and quarters in a state of cleanliness/readiness twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week. A daily chore list will be completed as assigned. 

  8. When approved and requested, participating in the training and evaluation of EMT students, observers, and trainees.

  9. Shall be punctual and ready for their shift at the assigned time.

  10. To act at all times in a professional manner and shall be able to handle conflict situations with good judgment.

  11. Shall follow the ARSI chain of command.

 

EDUCATIONAL:

  1. Provides for ongoing personal growth in EMS and emergency care through education and maintenance of state requirements for the current level of certification, C.P.R.

  2. Maintains functional awareness of all regional EMS guidelines/protocols.

  3. Documents all activities in an acceptable manner.

  4. Participates in weekly and monthly skills/knowledge training.

 

PUBLIC RELATIONS AND APPEARANCE:

  1. Participates ACTIVELY in public awareness and community education programs related to Arlington Rescue Squad, Inc.

  2. Maintains professional appearance of the approved uniform and maintains hygienic and grooming standards.

  3. Works on special projects as delegated by the Executive Director and/or the Deputy Director.

  4. Adheres to the ARSI No Smoking Policy – effective 6/1/2017

 

ANALYTICAL SKILLS:

  1. Must be able to collect and record data for use in the field and for medical records.

  2. Must participate in local and regional data collection and quality assurance programs.

 

COMMUNICATIONS SKILLS:

  1. Needs to communicate tactfully and sensitively to all the staff of ARSI as well as the staff of all mutual aid squads.

  2. Shall remain apolitical while representing Arlington Rescue Squad, Inc. Shall abstain from any and all political involvement with outside agencies while on duty or representing Arlington Rescue Squad, Inc.

  3. Must be a leader within the workplace and community.

  4. Must speak English clearly and write legibly.

  5. Must possess basic teaching skills.

 

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

  1. Must be in excellent physical health with no medical disabilities that would impair our duties as Field Personnel.

  2. Considerable lifting and moving of heavy patients required. Must be able to lift a minimum of 150lbs

  3. Will need to extricate some patients in a hazardous environment.

  4. Work with present considerable hazards, i.e., explosions, anoxic environments, violent patients, and potential fire risks.

  5. Participates in weekly and monthly physical safety training.

  6. May be required to take physical fitness test or medical exams at ARSI expense at any time during their employment.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

  • 24-hour shifts that are scheduled based on squad needs. 

  • Per-Diem pay rate starts at $16 to $20 per hour based on certification level after FTO. 

  • Annual employee reviews.

  • Each employee is eligible to enroll in a group Aflac insurance program.
