POSITION TITLE:

FULL-TIME EMS Provider 

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

This Full-time EMS position has the responsibility for the provision of optimum patient care in accordance with the Vermont State EMS Protocols and all regional EMS/operational guidelines/protocols. Performs unlimited day-to-day operations as directed by the Executive Director. 

WORK SCHEDULE:

This position works Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays, and every other Tuesday.  (This schedule is dependant on the needs of the agency at the time of hiring for this position.)

Shifts are 12-hours in duration and start at 0600 hours unless otherwise noted well in advance. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: High School Graduate or Equivalent.

AGE: Must be a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of two (2) years of field experience as an EMT.

 

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

1.     CURRENTLY NATIONAL REGISTRY Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT), or Paramedic. 

2.     Valid motor vehicle operator’s license that is not under suspension or revocation.

3.     Certified in HAZ-MAT awareness or equivalent or obtain certification within one (1) year of employment.

4.     IC 100, IC 200, IC 700 certification or obtained within one (1) month of employment.

5.     Completed Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC), (CVO) or complete within one (1) year of employment.

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Demonstrated evidence of proficiency in the required BLS/ALS skills. Must have thorough current knowledge of medical/traumatic assessments, treatment, and protocols.

  2. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with fellow employees, hospital staff, fire units, rescue squads, police departments, communication centers, management, neighboring EMS units, and the general public.

  3. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  4. Must be able to handle conflict situations with good judgment, professionalism, and courtesy.

  5. Must have a working knowledge of the physical layout, street systems, and demographics of the Arlington Rescue Squad, Inc. coverage area.

  6. Must be able to work as a team member along with the volunteers to accomplish said tasks

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintains personal knowledge and skills in order to deliver optimum patient care.

  2. Safely operates vehicles of Arlington Rescue Squad, Inc in accordance with the current motor vehicle code of the state of Vermont.

  3. Stocks and maintains ARSI vehicles and their contents in a state of readiness at all times.

  4. Works in hazardous environments to ensure the safety and stabilization of the patient.

  5. Works with local EMS, fire, and law enforcement agencies as a team for a coordinated effort on the patients’ behalf.

  6. Maintains ARSI vehicles, radios, equipment, supplies, and quarters in a state of cleanliness & readiness twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week.

  7. When approved and requested, participating in the training and evaluation of EMT students, observers, and trainees

  8. Shall be punctual and ready for their shift at the assigned time.

  9. To act at all times in a professional manner and shall be able to handle conflict situations with good judgment.

  10. Shall follow the ARSI chain of command.

  11. Reports to work on time and ready to respond to calls

  12. Checks ambulances or other assigned vehicles and ensures readiness for both emergency and non-emergency responses.

  13. Safely responds to emergency calls for assistance/ when needed

  14. The EMS crew renders appropriate emergency medical and/or trauma care per VT protocols.

  15. Proper patient packaging and transfer to ambulance

  16. Safely transports patient and crew to receiving facility

  17. Provides verbal and written report to receiving facility staff

  18. Records the assessment and delivery of emergency and non-emergency medical care for the patient that took place at the emergency or non-emergency scene and in transit utilizing an electronic patient care report

  19. Collects medical insurance information from patient or receiving facility

  20. Thoroughly cleans and restocks the ambulance after each call

  21. Where applicable, safely operates necessary tools or equipment required for call

  22. Performs routine station maintenance according to schedule

  23. Acts in a professional manner and uses good judgment in carrying out all job responsibilities

  24. Answer incoming phone lines and greet the public at the Station

  25. Ability to prioritize and problem solve

  26. Maintain a calm and reasonable attitude at all times

  27. Keeps all information regarding patients confidential and follow all applicable HIPPA rules and regulations

  28. Report to work clean, well-groomed, and professional-looking on a daily basis

  29. Ability to operate electronics (Cell phones, GPS systems, computers)

  30. Performs all administrational tasks/duties assigned by the Executive Director. 

  31. Performs all other tasks/duties assigned by Executive Director. 

 

EDUCATIONAL:

  1. Provides for ongoing personal growth in EMS and emergency care through education and maintenance of state requirements for the current level of certification.

  2. Maintains functional awareness of all regional EMS guidelines/protocols.

  3. Documents all activities in an acceptable manner.

PUBLIC RELATIONS:

  1. Participates ACTIVELY in public awareness and community education programs related to Arlington Rescue Squad, Inc.

  2. Maintains professional appearance of the approved uniform and maintains hygienic and grooming standards.

  3. Works on special projects as delegated by the Executive Director.

  4. Works with Executive Director on all public events and fundraising. 

 

COMMUNICATIONS SKILLS:

  1. Needs to communicate tactfully and sensitively to all the staff of ARSI as well as the staff of all mutual aid squads.

  2. Shall remain apolitical while representing Arlington Rescue Squad, Inc. Shall abstain from any and all political involvement with outside agencies while on duty or representing Arlington Rescue Squad, Inc.

  3. Must speak English clearly and write legibly.

  4. Must possess basic teaching skills.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

  • 12-hour shifts that are scheduled based on squad needs. (7 days a week)

  • The full-time pay rate starts at $18 to $25 per hour based on certification level after FTO. 

  • Annual employee reviews.

  • 5 Sick/Personal days per calendar year. 

  • 7 paid vacation days per year.    

  • Full-time employees are eligible to participate in BCBS of VT SILVER  60/40 group health insurance plan. 

  • Full-time employees are eligible for a $1000 annual insurance assistance.

  • Each employee is eligible to enroll in a group Aflac insurance program.
